An externship is a short-term, job-shadowing opportunity designed to give students insight into their chosen career field. Moreover, it allows participants to observe real workplace environments, interact with professionals, and understand organizational culture.

Externships for students already working in the medical field

Students already employed in the medical field can complete externship competencies at their workplace with prior approval. The student’s manager or supervisor must contact the SCC Director of Externships to confirm eligibility and compliance.

However, approval depends on the employer’s discretion. In some cases, certain facilities may approve clinical practice, while others may not.
