Diploma in Mammography Technologist (MT)

Program Overview

The Mammography Technologist (MT) program at Stellar Career College prepares graduates becomes Mammography Technologist. The MT program offers knowledge and cognitive skills needed for entry level mammographer. This program aims to give opportunity for students to complete both didactic coursework and clinical skills experience necessary to prepare to meet eligibility for the professional certification in this field. The program focuses on specific skills and knowledge necessary to become proficient in this field.

The MT program prepares registered radiographers to become registered mammographers. Includes instruction in anatomy and physiology, mammography instrumentation, mammography positioning, principles and procedures of mammography, and quality assurance.

The program also offers clinical externship for Mammography Technologist that is required for the certification. After successfully completing the program, students will be awarded the Certificate of Completion from Stellar Career College approved by the State. Graduates will be eligible to take Mammography Examination of American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Program Objectives

The Mammography Technologist program prepares graduates to:

  1. Apply radiation safety in the clinical setting,
  2. Interpret orders for diagnostic imaging procedures,
  3. Demonstrate effective communication in a healthcare setting,
  4. Review and evaluate developed x-rays, video tape, or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes,
  5. Operate or oversee operation of radiologic or magnetic imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes,
  6. Position patient on examining table and set up and adjust equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by physician,
  7. Process exposed radiographs using film processors or computer-generated methods,
  8. Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff, and
  9. Apply knowledge and learning to the professional development in the field of mammography.

Program Admission Requirements

Prerequisites

  1. Students must hold a valid Radiology/X-Ray license to enroll in this program

Admission 

  1. Enrollment is open for students on any day of the week. They will also be notified about the start date after confirmation of their registration.
  2. You must submit a high school diploma, General Education Diploma (GED), a college transcript, or an equivalent certificate.

Registration

Applicants must fill out and sign an enrollment agreement that outlines their obligations toward the institute.

Entrance Assessment

Applicants must pass the following required assessment tests:

  1. Stellar Career College Learning Management Orientation Completion Test
  2. Stellar Career College Digital Literacy Test

These assessment tests can be taken online or at the College campus by appointment. Assessment tests are offered free of cost to prospective students.
